What happens to the HEI if I pass away?
If you pass away, your agreement with Point is assumable meaning that it transfers to your estate, your heirs, or any co-owners of your home. Payment is not accelerated, and no payment is due right away. The original term of the HEI stays the same. Your heirs can repay at any point during the term through a sale of the home, HELOC, cash-out refinance, or the use of personal funds.
After ownership of the home transfers, we'll ask your heirs to sign an assumption agreement. This confirms they understand the terms. Even if they don't sign it, they must still follow the original HEI agreement.
