What is a Lien?
A lien is a legal notice that shows someone has a financial claim tied to your home.
This usually happens when your home is used to secure a loan or when money related to the property is owed. The lien stays in place until the loan is paid back or resolved.
Common examples of liens include:
-
Mortgage or HELOC liens
-
Property tax liens
-
Contractor or mechanic’s liens
-
HOA liens
-
Child support liens
A lien doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem—it simply tells lenders who has a legal right connected to the property.
